Introducing the Volkswagen XL1

It might not look conventional, but the Volkswagen XL1 is right now, ranked as the planet's number 1 fuel-efficient hybrid car and is the winner of the Transport category in the annual Designs of the Year Awards, 2014, perfect for a car valeting!
The design team, led by Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design for Volkswagen, the XL1 is a limited series two-seater car. This ground breaking vehicle pushes back the limits of energy efficiency for a road-legal production vehicle. As a result, it was nominated for the exhibition automotive design and technology expert, Andrew Nahum.
The design brief was simple for the XL1: to produce a ‘one litre’ car – or a such, a car that uses one litre of fuel per 100 km, which is equivalent to 282 miles per gallon. The resulting vehicle uses just 0.9 litres per 100 km, or 313 mpg. This high mpg figure equates to extremely low carbon dioxide emissions value of just 21 g/km.
All in all, the XL1 has shown just what can be done and may well begin a new fuel economy race amongst other large car manufacturers and car valeting companies in Poole - all for the better for us consumers.
